The Volkswagen Golf I in Mars-Red is special to me as it was my grandfather´s car. As a child I took this photo of him in the open driver´s door in his driveway, hencemore treeline than car.
My granddad took this better picture with my mum, my sister and myself (with the bunny) in 1979. The car was the luxury GL version with an automatic choke and a centre console.
It became my first car when my grandfather sadly died in 1993 and had an amazingly low milage of 25.000 km. The photo was taken in 1994 shortly before I went to Britain for six months to be an assistant teacher at Repton School (Yes, the school BBC Top Gear presenter Jeremy Clarkson was expelled from. Amazing, isn´t it?). I kept it until 2001 when the corrosion started to be so bad that there was a hole underneath the driver´s seat. With a heavy heart I had to sell my very first car after 7 years for a tuppence and bought my second car.
